Welcome & Overview

With over three decades of international experience, I am a Consultant Paediatric Ophthalmolgist and Clinician Scientist specialising in the assessment and management of complex, brain-based visual disorders in children and adults.

My career has emcompassed leadership of major departments, extensive research, and global teaching.

Scope of Practice

After more than 30 years in surgical and medical paediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus, Mr. Chandna has chosen to focus his extensive experience on specialist non-surgical care for the following conditions in children and adults. I offer both remote and in person consultations.

Cerebral and Brain-Based Visual Impairment

I specialize in assessing and managing cerebral visual impairment (CVI) in both children and adults, especially those with early brain damage. For children, tailored interventions help address visual challenges at home, school, and in the community, supporting developmental milestones and day-to-day functioning. Adults face more complex needs, such as navigating work, mobility, and social integration.

To diagnose and manage CVI, I conduct comprehensive assessments, including history-taking, eye exams, and functional vision evaluations, remotely or in person. Expert reports—outlining visual impairment and functional vision challenges—are provided to support interventions in real-world settings.

A collaborative approach ensures that each intervention plan is tailored to the patient’s unique needs.

Strabismus and Amblyopia

I provide comprehensive evaluation and management of strabismus and amblyopia in children and adults. With over three decades of surgical experience, I now focus exclusively on non-surgical treatments within my scope of practice.

Personalized interventions may include patching, prism correction, and custom corrective lenses to improve eye alignment, binocular function, and visual comfort. These are particularly useful in early treatment and for managing symptoms such as eye strain or double vision.

I also assess strabismus and diplopia resulting from strokes, injuries, or neurological conditions. While my practice focuses on non-surgical solutions, I can guide and facilitate referrals if surgical intervention becomes necessary.

Medical Legal and Expert Reports

I provide expert assessments and reports for medical legal purposes and expert reports for children and adults specializing in paediatric ophthalmology, adult strabismus, and cerebral visual impairment (CVI). This also extends to assessing visual consequences of brain-based injuries, such as concussion, stroke, brain tumors, and other impairments like amblyopia and double vision.

With over four decades of clinical and research experience both in the UK and internationally I offer evidence-based assessments that are tailored to each individual’s needs. I have also led a teaching organization and a sight-saving charity, emphasizing patient care.

My reports support legal, insurance, and eligibility matters, offering clear, actionable findings to assist decision-making.

Consultations

I offer both remote and in-person consultations.

Remote consultations are conducted via video link and include a detailed history; an initial assessment and review of previous investigations, with both parents and older children welcome to join.

In-person consultations provide a complete eye and vision assessment, including non-invasive tests such as visual fields and eye photography, and may involve eye drops that temporarily blur vision, so it is advisable to be accompanied.
